BrewBirds
After graduating, as the world came to a screeching halt during the pandemic, I approached a local café for my first project as a designer.
The experience of visiting an independent café has grown in value in reflection and response to popular culture. This new, small café was attracting customers and pushing social media presence, but their simple serif logo failed to translate the quirky atmosphere around it. This was my brief: communicate the character and experience of the brand through their logo…
I was given free reign to be creative with this logo and branding project. The first iterations played on combining the letter ‘B’ with the classic line form of a bird.
Experimenting with the form of letters quickly moved to incorporating the letters as objects. The idea of birds on a wire, combined with the classic serif font that the café already had in use, would go on to inform the final logo design.
Mock-ups
I formed an informal and friendly relationship with the client over social media, since meeting up in person wasn’t on the cards. I sent the below mock-ups over to great response. The client went on to test-stamp on their cups and we evaluated the favourites based on customer reviews.
Building on success.
Off the back of our successful collaboration, the client requested that I design some loyalty cards for the café, as well as their sister café ‘Craft’. .Loyalty cards have become the norm in the booming cafe industry, this was our chance to really stand out with a loyalty card that reflects the prestige of the high-end cafe, feeling like a business card in the hands of the user.
